The new Hoopa EX box. Is it worth it? I'll give you a quick run down of what's in this product and who would love it.
First off, what's in the Hoopa EX legendary collection box? Each box contains:
- 5 Pokémon booster packs
- Hoopa EX promo
- Hoopa pin
- 5 full art cards
These full arts are quite spectacular when you see them, they're fully holographic and great artwork. Best of all, they've included some artwork for everyone. Whether you like the dark and powerful look of Zekrom or the light and cute look of Latias, there's a great mix of cards.
Taking a brief look at the promos themselves, the ones with merit are:
Hoopa EX. In a deck running psychic energy, this could help you speed up your set up. However since it has such low health, I'd advise only running 1 in your deck.
Palkia. With its second attack, you can stop your opponent from attaching energy from their hand to the defending pokemon. This is great because if you can get this going fast enough, you'll be able to stop them from attacking you at all! However you'll need to find a way to get 3 energy on this pokemon quickly, or this may not be fast enough. Since this isn't an EX, your opponent only takes 1 prize when it's knocked out, so this could be a decent card in certain decks.
Latios. If you run a deck with latias as well, you could use this to help you set up quickly. Again, as this isn't an EX, your opponent only takes 1 prize card when it's knocked out, so could be useful in certain decks.
While I don't think many of these cards will see huge play in top tier decks, they certainly have their merit and would be great fun to use in decks for hobby leagues or at home. The palkia could really bother your opponent and could be great fun to use.
So who would love this product? As with most big-box products, this one is mainly for the collectors. The beautiful art on the promos would look stunning in any collection and just the design of the box and the layout would mean that you could keep the product sealed for display if you wanted.
Thinking of getting this product but the above description doesn't sound like you? This doesn't mean you won't like the product or what's in it! But if you'd rather try something else, there are HEAPS of other options. Many of them will get write-ups in the upcoming weeks. If you're looking for something a little more competitive, I would suggest some booster packs, or you could even try your luck with the random booster packs to get a good mix of sets. There are also always tins, which also some in a nice display but have a few less promos. Tins are a little cheaper though.
